Accountability and Showing Up for Yourself: Key Takeaways from Facilisgroup’s emPOWER Webinar with Justine Froekler

Being accountable to yourself means showing up for yourself and following through with it. It means setting and keeping boundaries that make sense to you. It also means standing up for yourself and meeting yourself with self-compassion. This is just a taste of what was talked about last month during Facilisgroup’s emPOWER webinar, The Power of Personal Accountability, hosted by the incomparable Justine Froelker. Froelker imparted some powerful messages and practices to the women of the Facilisgroup Community on what accountability means, how to set healthy boundaries, and building on the Power of No from the last emPOWER event. Here are a few key takeaways from what attendees are calling a powerful webinar.

Accountability = Setting and Keeping Your Boundaries

During the first half of the webinar, Froelker discussed how accountability and boundaries go hand in hand. According to Froelker, accountability is all about showing up for yourself and following through with it. She also touched on how women find it hard to set boundaries for themselves because they take on so much, having to be so many things for so many people.

“We often don’t set boundaries because they’re too hard or too uncomfortable, but then we are angry and resentful because we let people get away with things that are not okay with us,” Froelker said.

She continued about how boundaries are like fences; boundaries shouldn’t be like a chain-link fence where you may not have enough boundaries, and anything can get through it, nor should it be rigid and impenetrable like a brick wall.

Accountability = Standing Up For Yourself

Accountability also means standing up for yourself and acting like you matter, according to Froelker. To be accountable to ourselves, we must do the work to know how much we matter, how loved we are, and how deserving and significant we are.

“If you don’t start living from that worth and showing up for yourself, you will crash and burn because your body keeps score and the body always wins,” Froelker said.

During the webinar, Froelker talked about how women need to be kinder to themselves. Accountability comes from leaning into the vulnerability to change and meeting yourself with self-compassion. Beating yourself up when you mess up doesn’t make you a better person.

Accountability ≠ Going Through It Alone

In the second half of the webinar, attendees had the opportunity to ask Froelker questions about accountability and boundaries. When asked about asking for help with being accountable on a regular basis, Froelker said we have to surround ourselves with people who share our same values. We can’t do this alone, so asking for help is crucial when practicing accountability.

Another person asked Froelker how we heal in connection. Froelker emphasized the importance of being vulnerable within our connections because if we aren’t, how are we truly living in connection? “Healing, growth, and change will never take place in disconnection,” she said. “It only happens in connection, which ultimately is care, love, respect, and dignity. It’s to turn back towards ourselves and one another.”

Accountability ≠ Complicated Steps To Follow

Sometimes holding ourselves accountable can be a daunting task, but not impossible. Doing small daily tasks like breath work and daily affirmations can go a long way. During the webinar, some asked Froelker if there was anything we could do daily to instill change in our lives. She brought up this TikTok trend of people making their phone backgrounds a childhood photo of themselves. They would then turn the phone to the mirror and say positive affirmations to themselves and their younger selves. Froelker said you don’t have to be perfect at it you just need to start practicing.

Speaking of routine, Froelker also praised the importance of a daily daytime and nighttime routine. It doesn’t need to be overly elaborate, just start simple, whether there’s a no phone policy in the morning or doing stretches right before bed.

Our attendees walked away from our emPOWER event feeling, well, empowered, and lucky to have a community like Facilisgroup that’s committed to uplifting and supporting women. Stay tuned for upcoming emPOWER events down the road.
